Dr. Hans Slabbekoorn

Dr. Hans Slabbekoorn is associate professor in Acoustic Ecology and Behaviour at the Institute of Biology Leiden. His research aims at explaining and maintaining biodiversity in the Anthropocene. He studies terrestrial and aquatic organisms for fundamental understanding and applied insights. His main expertise concerns the impact of species-specific signals, environmental cues, and anthropogenic noise on everyday survival and life-time reproductive success. His often interdisciplinary methodology includes theoretical and empirical work, typically combining observational and experimental approaches, with indoor studies on domesticated animals or invertebrates and outdoor work on free-ranging birds and fishes.
