On March 27, 2026 the 4th annual Chronobiology Symposium will take place in the Cleveringazaal of the Kamerling Onnes Building of Leiden University. During this symposium, you can enjoy a full day of focusing on the research on circadian biology and biological rhythms in Society, Care, Nature and Biodiversity.

This full day symposium will be filled with a variety of presentations, covering the wide spectrum of chronobiology in nightshifts, therapies and responses in humans, animals, fish, insects, plants, etc. With this program we aim to offer a wide spectrum of all the chronobiology work that is done in the Netherlands and inspire others to advance chronobiology research and implementation of research results in society. We are very pleased to present you with the following invited lectures: 

• • A keynote lecture by Professor Russell G. Foster. Professor of Circadian Neuroscience and head of the Nuffield Laboratory of Ophthalmology and the Sleep and Circadian Neuroscience Institute. University of Oxford. UK

• • A second keynote lecture by Prof. dr Chris Colwell. Professor of Psychiatry & Biobehavioral Science, UCLA and director of the UCLA Laboratory of Circadian & Sleep Medicine. University of California, USA

• • – Live from the Leiden Academy Building – The valedictory lecture by Prof. dr Johanna H. Meijer. Professor of Neurophysiology at the Leiden University Medical Centre and head of Circadian Clocks lab. Leiden, NL

• • Complemented by a selection of abstract presentations

Admission to the Symposium:

To partly cover the costs of the event, we request an admission fee of 30 euros pp for all participants. However, since we value the participation of bachelor- and master-students, they will not be charged the fee. (Guests invited by Prof Meijer will not be charged the fee either) Tickets can be obtained via Eventbrite.

Presentations and posters

We appreciate receiving your abstract submission no later than January 31, 2026. While preparing your presentation, please take into account that the participants have a broad spectrum of backgrounds and interests. 

An oral presentation includes 15 minutes of presenting and 5 minutes of questions. For a poster presentation: please use a portrait orientation at A0 size max. Following your submission, the organising team will run a rigorous process of selecting the best abstracts for an oral- or poster presentation.

The venue and how to get there:

The Kamerling Onnes Building is located at the Steenschuur 25, in Leiden. The location is very easy to reach from Leiden Central Station (railway) on foot: 1,4 km/ 20 min, and via public transport (Bus, stop Korevaarstraat). The nearest parking garage is at a 2-minute walk: Parking Garenmarkt, at a parking fee of max €25.00 per day.

Funding:

This symposium is organized and partly funded by NWO/ the BioClock consortium, a 6 year research project on the effects of the biological clock, light pollution, night shifts and therapies on  humans, animals, insects, fish and plants.
