LUMC staff get acquainted with their chronotype

June 22, 2026

This month, the Leiden University Medical Center (LUMC) is dedicated to sleep and night work. As we at BioClock know, good sleep forms an essential foundation for health and well-being. That is why LUMC is organizing various lectures, activities, and workshops to raise awareness among employees about the importance of sleep and to provide them with practical tools to manage it better. A contribution from BioClock could, of course, not be missing.

Over the course of two afternoons, the BioClock crew was present for LUMC staff, patients, and visitors. At our stand, they could fill out a short questionnaire about their sleep patterns to discover whether they are a morning or evening person. Participants gained insight into what this chronotype means for them and how they compare to others of their age.

This not only provided valuable insights for the participants themselves, but also for us. Participants placed their results on a graph, creating a clear overview of the distribution of chronotypes within LUMC.

The conclusion? Morning types are in the majority at LUMC. But healthcare continues day and night, of course, so we are pleased to see that all chronotypes are well represented.
