On Friday, March 28, 2025, the very first Bioclock Garden in the Netherlands was officially opened in the school gardens of Leiden. The opening was led by Prof. Joke Meijer on behalf of the Bioclock Consortium and attended by the mayor of Leiden and the board of the School Garden Association.
The Bioclock Garden is a unique space where children are introduced to the concept of the biological clock in a playful and interactive way. By learning about day and night rhythms, they discover how these rhythms influence plants, animals, and themselves. Plants serve as vivid and tangible examples—opening and closing their leaves, growing toward the light, and responding to changes in daylight—helping children better understand nature’s timing and their own internal clock.
This initiative marks an important step in raising awareness about the importance of natural rhythms, especially among younger generations.
