They both influence your biological clock \u2014 right down to the molecular level.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We\u2019re proud to share the latest scientific publication by our PhD candidate Ayano Shiba, in the Journal of Circadian Rhythms:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u201cVoluntary Running and Estrous Cycle Modulate \u0394FOSB in the Suprachiasmatic Nucleus of the Wistar Rat\u201d<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What did the study find?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Four weeks of voluntary running reduced expression of \u0394FOSB \u2014 a marker of long-term neuronal activity \u2014 in the brain\u2019s master clock (SCN) in both male and female rats.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In sedentary females, \u0394FOSB levels followed the estrous cycle, but this rhythmicity vanished in active runners.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Estradiol (a key estrogen) directly reduced \u0394FOSB levels, linking hormonal cycles to circadian regulation.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Interestingly, \u0394FOSB was found specifically in VIP-expressing SCN neurons, suggesting targeted molecular effects.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Why does this matter?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>\u0394FOSB is involved in neuronal plasticity and behavioral adaptation.
